The Last Song Movie Review

Movie Review: The Last Song

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus returns to the silver screen via the film adaptation of Nicholas Spark’s novel The Last Song. I grew up watching Miley on Disney’s Hannah Montana. The Miley fan that I am, I am quick to write this movie review of The Last Song.

In this movie review of The Last Song, I will try to be as objective as possible. I have not read the novel yet so do not expect comparisons of the book to the film in this movie review of The Last Song.

The Last Song can be described as a coming-of-age drama. It follows the life of seventeen year old Ronnie Miller, played by Miley Cyrus. A piano prodigy when she was younger, Ronnie had turned into a rebellious teenager following the divorce of her parents. Her father left New York City where he used to teach in the Julliard School for his childhood hometown in Georgia.

Upon arrival in the tiny beach town in Georgia, where she and her younger brother was sent to spend summer with their father, Ronnie was very hostile towards others. Unlike his brother who easily bonded with their father, Ronnie was quite reserved. Until she met Will Blakelee, played by Liam Hemsworth.

Ronnie and Will became involved together in protecting the Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest. As Ronnie and Will became romantically involved with each other, Ronnie manages to bond with her estranged father.

More than a coming-of-age drama, as can be seen in this movie review of The Last Song, it is also a family movie. There are a couple of touching moments, which I’m sure will be enjoyed by teens and adults alike. I love how the scene where Miley and Liam had to spend the night together to protect turtle nests. Unfortunately, the eggs did not hatch. My heart also melted on how innocent Jonah was. He easily bonded with his estranged father and helped in finishing their stained window glass project for the church.

On the downside, I was overwhelmed by the characters of the movie. For a teen-starrer movie, The Last Song is quite emotionally loaded. I was a bit bothered by the unnecessary complications Ronnie has to go through.

However, despite the emotional baggage, this movie review of The Last Song aims to show the positive outlook this movie shows its audience. I love how Ronnie’s affection for his father was given equal importance towards the latter part of the movie. Overall, it is more than your typical teen chic flick.

Indeed, this movie gives Miley a break-out from his teeny-weeny Hannah Montana role.

Great review. Because of this, I’ll watch The Last Song. I was able to read the book though, I hope this movie gives justice to the book.

Ha the movie sucked, tween girls dont know any better than to idolize this horse face twit.  REAL, LEGIT movie reviewers have slammed the movie as the piece of crap it is….along with her “acting.”

Sorry to dissapoint! I am not a ‘tween’ girl & haven’t read the book. But I liked the movie & the acting. Miley Cyrus gets a lot of criticism  because of her huge succcess w/ Disney. The girl has talent & this just shows a little of her non-Hannah Montana skills. She has good comedic sense & timing which you can see in her tv show. Expect her to get better as she gets older & learns more. I read somewhere that she has an acting coach because she knows she needs to improve. The story is the right kind of story to take her away from HM. Good Job, MIley!

the “unnecessary complications Ronnie has to go through” is enough for me to believe that the movie is not that interesting, though the sweet thing about Ronnie and Will made it all exciting… actually, it was kinda common compared to other stories Mr. Sparks had written which at first the protagonist hates someone dear to him/her, then starts to understand the “dear person” in the middle part, and some sort of big problems appear in the last part like “dying” or “splitting up”… yes, i admit it was to give a twist to the story, but isn’t too common? you can totally figure out the ending by the time the you’ve understand the middle part… trust me…
i’m not so “in” to the movie and the story, but i do like the soundtrack…
    (just and opinion folks…)

some even said, the movie’s good, but the thing that Miley’s the main character made it worst than ever… LOL!
