When stories went around that Gerald Anderson was being eyed as Sarah Geronimo’s next leading man for a movie, many die-hard fans of Gerald and his ka-love team Kim Chiu raised their voices in protest. According to some claims, Sarah was reportedly upset by the harsh words said by some Kimerald supporters and what allegedly followed was the constant comparison between Kim and Sarah as to who is the more popular and bankable young star.
ABS-CBN.com asked Gerald what he thought of the supposed rivalry as it seems that he is somehow caught in between. “Hindi ko alam kung inaway nga talaga si Sarah [ng ibang fans namin]. Ang narinig ko lang is may mga fans na ayaw dun sa team up [namin ni Sarah]. Pero ang sa akin hindi natin mabe-blame yung mga fans. Yung mga fans ni Kim sasabihin siya ang mas magaling. Ganun din naman ang mga fans ni Sarah. Minsan aabot sa point na magaaway ang mga fans. Hindi sila papayag na mas malamangan yung idol nila.”
Gerald, Kim, and Sarah are all mainstays on ASAP XV. ABS-CBN.com then asked Gerald if there is any tension between him and the singer-actress brought about by the negative issue. Apparently, because of the hectic pace at the backstage of ASAP, most of the stars rarely have the time to chit-chat. “Hi-hello lang kami ni Sarah sa ASAP. Pero wala namang ilangan sa amin. Hindi naman kami nagpapadala sa intriga. Tuloy lang kami sa trabaho.”
Since emerging from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition in 2006, Gerald and Kim have risen to become one of the hottest love teams in showbiz. After four years of being a love team, Gerald has been vocal about his willingness to be paired with other actresses, which he knows some fans might not approve of. “Hindi talaga magugustuhan yun ng maraming fans namin ni Kim, ha ha ha! Siyempre naman ang gusto pa rin nila kami pa rin ni Kim ang magka-partner sa mga projects. Sila talaga ang dahilan kaya kami successful ni Kim ngayon. Kaya nga sa past four years lagi kami ang magkasama because we want to give them what they want. Pero meron din kasi kaming mga Kimerald fans na gusto kaming makita na iba rin ang kasama sa project. Gusto nila makita yung growth namin ni Kim as actors.”

In the movie I Love You Goodbye, Kim’s leading man was Derek Ramsay while Gerald had Maxene Eigenmann as his leading lady in Agimat presents Tiagong Akyat. He also went solo in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, just like in the upcoming new chapter of Your Song Presents where he will take on a different kind of role co-starring some of the ex-housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Double Up.
