Die-hard fans of the one and only Teleserye Queen Judy Ann Santos react adversely to presidential candidate Jamby Madrigal’s statement wherein she describes using a celebrity endorser in a political campaign as an insult to the intelligence of the Filipino people.
It can be remembered that Jamby lost to a previous senatorial elections. However, she won in the next senatorial elections after Judy Ann endorsed her on almost all media outfits.
Sen. Madrigal uttered her rather controversial statement during the Inquirer First Edition: Presidential Debates organized by the Philippine Daily Inquirer in cooperation with the U.P. College of Mass Communication.
Jamby was asked the question: “Political ads nowadays seem to cater to the lowest common denominator in society. From catchphrases to jingles, they seem to contain mainly rhetoric but no real substance. Do you think this type of campaigning, including political endorsements from movie celebrities, contribute to the dumbing down of the Filipino voter?”
The sole female presidential aspirant answered:
“The use of actors — you had to pay P30 million to endorse you— is an insult to the Filipino intelligence.”
“I have seen the folly of my ways… I will not repeat it because I do not believe you repeat a mistake. But I also don’t believe you should perpetuate lies that are perpetuated by a big budget.”
